Divers recovery body of Cocke County drowning victim
Just days after devastating flash flooding in Cocke County, water rescue teams were dispatched Wednesday evening after a 911 call about a man falling into the Pigeon River.
A report from emergency management officials said the victim was recovered by divers two hours after the initial rescue call was made from Pleasant Grove Road near Newport.
“…Divers Delta 2 and Dive Team Leader Delta 1 entered the water at the last known sighting and searched at depths from 3 to 10 feet. After 20 minutes of meticulous searching using only their sense of touch, the victim was located at 9:10 pm,” said a portion of the statement from Cocke County Emergency Management posted on social media.
The body was taken to Knoxville for an autopsy while county police are continuing their investigation.
