Historic Grundy Wrestling Club gym leveled by fire
A Southwest Virginia sports complex that had dozens of state champions pass through its doorway has been leveled by a large fire.
Grundy Wrestling Club president Tass Robertson announced the news on social media as multiple fire units from Buchanan County were dispatched to the gymnasium and assessed the building as a complete loss.
Grundy High was shuttered this year as part of the consolidation plan that formed Southern Gap High School. The Golden Wave wrestling program captured 28 state titles during their dominate charges through three decades of competition, including 10 consecutive VHSL championships beginning in 2015.
“This is a very difficult situation, but we will get the fire put out, recover and rebuild!” Robertson wrote.
