Parent of David Crockett High student says Keith Ervin saga is not finished
The Keith Ervin saga may not stop with just nationwide viral videos and a censure from his fellow members of the Washington County TN Board of Education.
The father of the David Crockett High School student who was the target of Ervin’s bragging comments, calling her hot, and an arm around her shoulder says the board member doesn’t belong around children and he has lost all confidence in the school system due to the lack of protection and board members laughing as they witnessed Ervin’s actions toward his child.
“…Equally disturbing is the response—or lack of response—from the school board. Multiple members witnessed this behavior, laughed, and allowed it to pass without immediate accountability. That is not leadership. That is systematic failure,” said the parent in his online message.
“As for the rest of the board, their inaction spoke loudly. Not only as parents, but as members of this community, we have lost confidence in their ability to protect the children they are entrusted to serve.”
The parent also said in a social media post that his family is carefully considering a path forward and will make that public at an appropriate time and manner. He also told readers not to mistake his family’s silence as acceptance.
At an emergency meeting this month, Erwin told a packed audience that he was sorry for his behavior and comments towards the board’s student representative and apologized to her family. Two of Ervin’s fellow members said while in session that he should resign his post along with a raucous crowd calling for him to step down.
