Sheriff open to discussion on possible full-time takeover of police matters in Weber City
The holiday weekend marks the start of patrols for Scott County Virginia deputies on the highways and streets of Weber City after a week of resignations and firings.
Sheriff Jeff Edds said having a police presence near the state line is something they’ve done for years when town officials request help during officer shortages.
A member of the Board of Supervisors recently suggested the county taking over as law enforcement in Weber City with additional funding coming from the town. The sheriff said the idea would need review by legal counsel but he is willing to explore the issue.
“…We would be open to it, you know, with the right circumstances and we don’t want a burden placed (on our department),” Edds told the governing body during an April 1 meeting.
State Police have confirmed their investigation that resulted in two firings including the chief of police is into possible tampering with time sheets.
