Washington County, TN planning commission approves BWXT’s depleted uranium expansion plan
The Washington County, Tennessee Regional Planning Commission approved a site plan of BWXT’s proposed expansion at its Jonesborough plant. The expansion will involve the construction of new facilities to process High-Purity Depleted Uranium. The president of BWXT’s Tennessee projected in January that the project would create at least 175 full-time jobs once production reaches full scale in about two years. The company was awarded a $1.6 billion federal contract for the production of High-Purity Depleted Uranium for the defense industry and maintaining of the nation’s nuclear arsenal.
