SWAT team called in to extract barricaded suspect at Kingsport apartments

SWAT team officers with Kingsport had to be called in to make an arrest after a resident at the Allendale Falls apartment complex threatened to kill herself and others.

A city report said Betsy Verboom, 56, had barricaded herself after making the threats and allegedly pointing a gun at the other occupants of the apartment then telling negotiators that they would have to kill her to take her out of the building.

SWAT members entered the dwelling and took Verboom into custody. She was transported to jail and charged with aggravated assault.
